Preventive dental care for children in Bangalore — the visit that makes every other visit unnecessary

Most of the treatment we do could have been prevented. A single preventive visit — examination, cleaning, fluoride, and a conversation — is worth more than any filling, crown, or nerve treatment. It costs less. It takes less time. And it means your child leaves healthy rather than treated.

Prevention is not a supplement to dental treatment — it is the alternative to it. One well-timed preventive visit stops 90% of problems before they ever need intervention. It costs less, takes less time, and your child leaves healthy rather than treated.

What a Preventive Visit Includes

Why Starting Early Matters

The Indian Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends the first dental visit by your child's first birthday. Early visits establish familiarity, catch decay before it spreads, and mean your child never needs to fear the dentist — because they have always known it as a positive place.

Special Preventive Options

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

SDF is a clear liquid painted onto a cavity in under a minute. It arrests the decay process without any drilling or injection. The treated area turns black (this is the dead cavity, not the tooth), which parents should know about beforehand. SDF is an excellent choice for very young children, anxious children, or cavities in baby teeth that will fall out within 2 years.

Remineralisation Treatment

Not every white spot or early lesion needs a filling. We identify pre-cavity lesions — areas where enamel is weak but the cavity has not yet formed — and treat them with fluoride, casein phosphopeptide (CPP-ACP), and dietary modification. Many of these reverse completely without any intervention to the tooth structure.

Space Maintainers

When a baby tooth is lost early (through decay or trauma), the neighbouring teeth tend to drift into the gap, blocking the permanent tooth's eruption path. A space maintainer — a simple fixed wire appliance — holds the space open until the permanent tooth is ready to come through. Fitted in one visit, typically no injection needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Baby teeth hold space for permanent teeth, support jaw development, and are essential for chewing and speech. Decay in baby teeth spreads rapidly, often reaching the nerve within months, causing pain and infection. Untreated infections can damage the permanent tooth forming beneath. And children who lose back baby teeth early often develop crowded permanent teeth that require extensive orthodontic treatment.
Under 2 years: a rice-grain smear of toothpaste (1000 ppm fluoride) twice daily. 2–6 years: a pea-sized amount. Over 6 years: adult toothpaste (1450 ppm fluoride). These are the amounts recommended by the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry and IAPD — enough fluoride to protect but not enough to cause fluorosis if swallowed occasionally.
Not at all — come in now. A 5-year-old has a full set of baby teeth and the first permanent molar is about to erupt. The timing is actually very good: sealants can be placed as soon as the first permanent molar erupts, and any decay in the baby teeth is still catchable before it becomes more complex. The earlier you start, the more we can protect.
Professional fluoride varnish (22,600 ppm) is far more concentrated than any toothpaste and requires trained application to ensure it reaches all surfaces. It bonds to the tooth surface and releases fluoride over the following days. It is not the same as fluoride toothpaste — the two are complementary, not interchangeable. We apply it at every check-up visit, which takes under 2 minutes.
